Naandi, which in Sanskrit means a new beginning; is one of the largest and fastest growing social sector organisations in India working to make poverty history. The core focus of Naandi’s activities is in the verticals of Child Rights, Sustainable Livelihoods and Safe Drinking Water.
Under the umbrella of child rights Naandi currently executes government’s mid-day-meal programme in 4 states providing hot and nutritious meals to more than 1,200,000 children every day through 22 centralized kitchens.
Naandi’s education programmes focus on improving the quality of education for underprivileged children attending government schools in 8 states. The programmes span from ensuring quality of service delivery in Anganwadi centers to providing academic support for betterment of learning levels in primary school to laying down a strong foundation of 10 years of academic, material and socio-economic support for girl child. Overall the education portfolio of Naandi reaches about 100,000 children on a daily basis.
Under sustainable livelihoods, Naandi works with more than 12,000 tribal farmer families in the Araku Valley region of Andhra Pradesh providing technical support, forward and backward linkages for producing organic and fair trade certified coffee. With this intervention farmers have broken the BPL barriers and are now looking towards a more prosperous future. Naandi’s integrated intervention in Araku Valley which is focused on education, health and horticulture has benefitted more than 60,000 tribals.
Naandi also works with underprivileged youth in Pune, Chennai, Patna and Chandigarh under the Mahindra Pride School intervention training them in various vocational skills including BPO, Hospitality and Retail ensuring employment thereby doubling and sometimes tripling their incomes after three months of training.
The ‘Community Water Services’ enterprise set up by Naandi is responsible for installing, operating and maintaining water systems across the country in a faster and more systemic manner and aims to ensure safe WHO standard, pathogen-free drinking water for all by 2015.
This has been our journey since 1998. Naandi is currently present in 11 states, touching over 3 million lives, where public-private partnerships with Governments, communities, corporate and civil society institutions help us create sustainable, affordable solutions to long-pending development problems of the country: ensuring the rights of a child, sustainable livelihood opportunities for the underserved and safe drinking water & sanitation to rural households.
